Appeasement by any other name......still won't work; ultimately, it
simply puts off the inevitable conflict.

Despite my very big mouth, even I must confess to being at a loss as
to what to actually do...short of doing a King Herod or Pharoh on
dissident populations -- kill all the males, that kind of thing --
this will be a perennial thorn in the side.

I sure feel for those *** whiteboys in Europe...they let in all the
Muslims, and now the Muslims are demanding to have things their way!
The Native Americans, Australian Aborigines, etc., were overcome by
superior weaponry, but these Euros willy-nilly gave the store away!
And all because a madman named Hitler made them forsake common sense
because he made overt national pride look so bad -- which only goes to
show how racists always wind up hurting their own!

National pride...yes...assumes a certain self awareness of 'us' as a
people that while not necessarily homogenous (i.e., Japan) still
defines who 'we' are. This probably has a lot to do with the current
US immigration issues- "shut up the Spanish and learn English" can be
viewed as a desire (coarsely expressed) that the new folks would do
more to fit in. Then you have to wonder about the all the hyphenated
Americans...unless you're a white boy then it doesn't seem to
matter....are they Americans first or African or Mexican or Asian.

I think the national pride stigma is part of the reason that Americans
are somewhat loved and hated by the Euros; we express what they want
to. (Then use it as an excuse to invade other countries, etc.)

Yep...there's no easy fix, heck it didn't really work for long with
Herod. Think of it as evolutionary rather than revolutionary and it
seems more a low level daily battle to keep the 'weeds' at bay

Since they proved this so well in the '30's it's amazing to find they
haven't learned a thing...but thing look at US. "Never start a land
war in Asia".

Bernie Montgomery said that..."never start a war in Russia or
China...."

But on the other hand, perhaps it's time to stop referring to World
War II all the time...my God, perhaps our thinking is very primitive
if in 2007 we're still referring back to the 1930s for guidance....

Perhaps, but if we don't see the pattern of past behaviour in current
events then we are going to inevitably follow along the same path.
What would have been the result if US had invaded Germany in 1933 to
usurp Hitler? (Yeah, I know we didn't have the military then to do
so). I doubt we would have developed the first fission bomb and then
what language would we be speaking today?
