Ugh. We moved away from that area when I was 19.

I moved here mainly because my wife was so unhappy in Houston and loved
being near the ocean, skiing, mountains, etc., with mild weather almost
year-round. I like that part, too, but it's too damn crowded and expensive.
We've been here little over a year and I've promised one more year but I
dunno if I'm willing to stay here beyond that. Austin might be a good
compromise.

There is no question that the West Coast is a beautiful thing, but the
cost and the crowding do tend to ruin it.

Try further north in California, or even Oregon or Washington.

North Oregon in the more forested area is one of the most beautiful
places on earth.

Austin is not so bad, but it's terribly crowded also and the traffic sux.
The South Coast has it's hurricane issues.

Oh I DO love Texas, don't get me wrong! But I live in the Hill Country.
The ocean is about a 2 hour drive.

You know you live in Texas when you measure the distance to various
places by the number of hours rather than miles. <g>

Hope the fires are nowhere near you!!!

We're in OC. The closest one was about 25 miles away, near Irvine. Arson,
still hasn't been caught. There was a thin layer of ash everywhere a coupla
days ago.

We used to live up above Lancaster in the Bouquet canyon area.
