Too bad it wasn't Victor.

I would have been glad for either competitor to have won. I think
there would have been applause in either case, actually. And just as
many naysayers if the placements would have been reversed.

Once again, we will have to endure ten years of Cutler before
the next guy wins a Mr. O. Then it will be ten years of that guy.

I don't think so.

Okay, change that: I don't HOPE so. Believe that Coleman's 4th placing
may have broken the spell. And Vic really looked like he was going to
take the title last night, but the judges apparently decided Jay was
the man.

I heard Charles Glass (former Olympia competitor and currently
acclaimed physique trainer) doing the commentating with PBW's Dan
Solomon and just praising the snot out of Cutler the whole way
through. If all or most of the judges shared Glass' viewpoint then
it's no wonder Jay won.

Jay was also touted as great representative of the sport and I think
that actually might have counted in the back of a judge's mind here
and there. Public image and/or the image of bodybuilding as a part of
that total "package" seemingly each competitor was talking about at
the press conference and throughout the Olympia weekend.

I think Vic would make a great representative or ambassador of the
sport as Mr. Olympia, but he's doing a great job as a competitor and
this contest certainly set up another great year-long (at least)
rivalry.

Jay's not the guy to hold the title for ten years. By choice if not by
genetic (or political) ability. I mean, sure Jay may have the physical
potential to maintain Olympia status for a decade and he also may have
the judges in check, but I believe Jay's a businessman and family man
just as much as an Olympian. He'll move on like the original Mr.
Olympia Larry Scott did. I believe Scott's still in the sport but he
didn't compete into his fourth decade.

Regardless of all that scribbling, it was a great show. I didn't see
the question (elsewhere in this newsgroup) about when/where or I would
have posted the link to the live broadcast of the competition sooner,
however here's a link to the free replay:

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/2007olympia.htm

Look around once you access that page and you should be able to find
the replay and a nice selection of other Olympia content. Ryan
DeLuca's www.Bodybuilding.com really deserves high praise for the
coverage (well, maybe not the hat cam ;)).

And I'm not sure who supplied what so far as technical support,
personnel support, etc. was concerned, but I believe http://bsnonline.com/
paid for the webcast of the Olympia if I understood what was announced
during the show.

Also, you might want to check out Muscular Development magazine's
coverage:

Man, Dan Solomon was right when he said that there's never been a
better time to be a fan of bodybuilding. The Internet has really
cracked the coverage wide open. And they broadcast it all for free!
Incredible. Fitness, Figure, as well as the men's and women's
competitions. Fantastic.

Congratulations to Iris, Jay, Jenny Lynn (Figure winner), and Adela
Garcia (Fitness winner)!
