What are the permanent limits?

That has yet to be defined. I have to avoid movement that would either
push or pull the clavicle further posterior or it could compress or
rupture a few internal organs that I'd rather not (such as esophagus).
It will entail some trial with little error as possible.

So you're looking for muscular endurance.

AND strength. I'll have to train for both, especially one-legged
drills (without torquing the pelvis).

The book you linked to looks interesting.
I'll be camping and off-road riding for three days this weekend with
some competitive motocross riders; will have a better idea of points
to focus on.

Thanks for the links.

<snip> I rode 1140 miles in 24 hours; <snip>

I've done about 960 miles in 20 hours. Pennsylvania to Florida, but
that was slabbing it courtesy of I-95. Otoh, there was a good bit of
construction going on at the time which slowed me down.

Mine was an unintentional and unofficial Iron *** ride west through
Tennessee and east Texas. Being pissed off is a powerful motivator ;)
Now that I know I can do it, I plan on an official one next year, but
I think I'll head west next time.
