Watching the blubber spread across the land over the last 20 years is truly
mind-boggling.

Yikes. Scary to think that in 1985, there was not a single state with 15%
or greater obesity (well, recorded as having it), and most seem to be
under 10%; in 2004, there's not a single state *under* 15%, and most are
over 20%.
As a Yerpeen, i was surprised to learn that the traditional heartland of
fat American bastards is not, as i'd always assumed, the great plains
states, but further east, in the midwest (or whatever you call the strip
to the east of the great plains). To be honest, though, my understanding
of US geography is poor enough that i didn't really think of them as
separate regions until i looked at that map. I kind of thought Ohio was
next to Kansas.
On the subject of the divisions of the US, here's someone else who's
thinking breakup:

Human kind needs a natural predator.
Lawyers?

Don't feel bad Tom, there are too many Americans who think Ohio is
next to Kansas.
And you certainly don't want to involve any of us in a conversation
involving the bits and pieces that make up the United Kingdom. Ireland
and Northern Ireland are especially perplexing.
