It is a false propaganda that yoga will improve one's health. After
attending yoga classes for then months, I have not noticed any
improvement in my health. But I have lost my money and precious time.
Yoga can improve some people's health, provided they practice it
diligently and provided it's what they need. The whole family of these
sorts of things, into which I'd put yoga, tai chi (and various related
things like qigong), and even simple meditation can provide health
benefits. My personal feeling is that at least some of those who don't
benefit from it simply aren't practicing it properly and/or enough.
Disclaimer: I am neither a 'devotee' of any of the above nor an
experienced or expert practitioner. I have learned little bits along
the way, and have incorporate some of what I've learned in my daily
exercise, and I wouldn't be without those things. I typically start
with a qigong standing meditation for a few minutes, followed by a few
other qigong movements I learned, mostly from the crane form, and then
move into joint health exercises. Together these constitute my morning
routine, done before any lifting and usually done before I head out the
door.
