Hello, I've been skinny all my life and I'd really like to gain a few
lbs. I've been reading a lot online and the one thing common is to eat
more calories than I burn. The trouble is I've tried that in the past
and although I gain weight, I still look skinny but with a spare tire.
Everything I eat goes straight to my stomach. Bad genes I guess. The
last time I really tried to gain weight, I was working out with
weights at the time. Still, every lb went straight to my waist. I
can't lift a lot of weights since I broke my wrists a few years ago,
so how do I gain weight (muscle), without getting a huge spare tire? I
know that if I start eating a lot more, no matter what I eat, it's all
going to my middle.
By the way, I've stayed around 135 since high school. I'm 5' 7'' , 48
yrs old. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Rick,
Can you still work out with weights? If you can't, you are going to have a
hell of a time gaining muscle. I also suspect that when you tried to gain
weight in the past you just ate crap. If you increase your calories just
above your maintenance and eat well, you will be more apt to gain muscle
than fat. It is also hard to tell what problems you may have had as we don't
know how much you were training etc. Let us know what you were eating and
how you were training.
