You can gain muscle and lose fat.. just more crappily?

I have been conducting an anecdotal experiment (no flames please, I know it's not scientific), trying to gain muscle and lose fat.

The basic premise was to ensure a calorie deficit (300-500 cals/day) whilst ensuring I had high protein. The important thing I think is making sure you have enough BCAA (branch chained amino acids) which can only be used to rebuild muscle and other cells if what I've read is correct. I drink the 98% WPI (which have about 25G per 100G of BCAAs) protein about 4-6 times a day (along with psyllium husk and almonds), depending on other meals.

Anyhow it seems to have worked, my arms are about one inch bigger and I went from doing 8x100lb bench to 8x143lb in about 5 months. I can't give exact fat loss figures, I'd say maybe 2-4%, not that much really. I never had veins on my arms before, and now there are some (I'm probably at around... 13-15% BF right now).

My other experience of overeating whilst working out does prove that my body does gain muscle/strength faster on higher than maint. calorie diets.

Thing is, I'm kinda unhappy at the moment with the amount of fat on my body. I don't really want to lose my muscle "gains" small as they are...... do I just keep doing what I'm doing with these slow weight loss results or just try and dump the fat first.

It's like being stuck in the slow drive, slowly gaining muscle and slowly losing fat, maybe I should try faster fat losing and muscle building techniques.. any suggestions?
