Does anyone have a link for a video of the correct way to use a
dumbbell in the same way as a kettleball pleasE? Just want to make
sure my technique is correct-straight back-head up swinging dumbbell
between legs? And of course wearing Borat style lyrca shorts
This guy,http://www.rosstraining.com, who has a lot of great stuff on
his site and is just generally a great resource for all kinds of things,
I believe has some video of dumbbell swings on his site. Sorry, don't
have a direct link for you.
It's good to realize that dumbbell swings have their own history and
style, and that what most people call a dumbbell swing is closer to a
kettlebell snatch than a kettlebell swing - you typically swing the
dumbbell all the way to overhead. What they call a dumbbell snatch is
done from hang or from the floor, which is what the kettlebell folks
call a dead or hang snatch. There isn't an exactly dumbbell equivalent
of the kettlebell swing, at least not in terms of what most people
practice, but there's no reason you can't do what you're asking about,
either.
One thing you can play with, if you have plate-loaded dumbbells, is to
load one end heavier than the other and swing the thing while holding it
closer to the lighter end. This gives an effect closer to a kettlebell
swing if that matters to you. I've done this. The trouble with
plate-loaded screw-on dumbbells and swings is that they tend to unscrew
pretty quickly - real collars would be better.

Thanks for that dude-I was just wondering when I get the dumbbell to
the top o f my head ,should I try to let the weight pull my wrist back
slightly? akin to the kettlebell exercises I have seen(the kettleball
seems to flop back almost onto the wrist?)
