Re: Home Gym Issues

I have recently set up a home gym in my garage. Very basic, just to have something for home. I will try to describe a couple of issues I am having, and maybe someone can help me out.

My weight bench...it's a York bench, totally non adjustable for height of bar holder or length of bench. The only adjustable part is the back, which can lay flat, or on a pretty good upright angle. The issue is, I can't lay back without cracking the back of my head on the barbell as it rests on the barbell holder. If I could raise the barbell holder, or lengthen the body of the actual bench, my problem might be solved. I keep the barbell on the barbell holder, even when I am doing my dumbbell flaps (I know there is probably a proper name for them) as I lay on the bench at an incline, and bring the dumbbells up in front of my face.

I'm having trouble with three things here: you keep the bar on even when you're not using it and it hurts your head and you haven't figured out to lift the bar off the holder? Hmmm.

The other problem I'm having is that you don't seem to be able to scootch. I scootch. I know where the bar is, I lay down before it, and scootch myself up until I'm positioned the way I want to be under the bar.

The third problem I'm having is with "bumbell flaps." Can you find a link for that on ExRx.net?

Issue #2. My current routine is pretty much a non-stop routine, starting with bench press, going on to curl, squats, over head press, bent over row, squats, bumbbell flaps (laying on bench), flye, skull crushers, ending with squats. My question...is this order ok? I want to maximize my time, but also avoid working the same muscle twice in a row. Is there a better order? Suggestions?

I think you'd do better to rest for a minute or so and work the same muscle again. Rest periods vary: I've seen 30 seconds and I've seen two minutes. You can superset where you are on another muscle group for the two minute rest for the first muscle group. But I don't think longer rest periods is as helpful.

OTOH, I don't know jack *** about this. I'm responding mostly so someone who knows something will correct me.

Thanks all!

It helps to sound stupider than you did if you want people to respond. The nice guys have all left, it's just surely people waiting to jump all over you for your errors. You want good info, act dumb. Perhaps you could work in something about your Bowflex or Smith machine.
