IMHO soft drinks are one of the greatest evils on the planet. I have
maybe 2 or 3 diet sodas per year but I mostly stick with water and iced
tea, and some alcoholic beverages. My zit problem has never been better
and if one or two do show up, Erygel (prescription topical alcohol gel
with erythromycin) clears it up quickly.
I picked up _The New Sugar Busters! Shopper's Guide: Discover which
foods to buy (and which to avoid) on your next trip to the grocery
store_ by H. Leighton Steward, Morrison C. Bethea, M.D., Sam S.
Andrews, M.D., and Luis A. Balart, M.D.
Amusingly (okay, to ME) is their recommendation to avoid cuts of beef
and lamb containing marbled fat, while ging the thumb's up to
alligator, antelope, and dove.
Wtf?
I'll just swing by the Giant grocer's for a few alligator patties and
some dove wings?
Too expensive... ;-)
Take a slingshot to the park and off some pigeons.
They are easy to clean and are excellent braised or slow roasted.
Even better if you can find the nesting sites and snag some fledgeling
squabs. <G>
Squirrel is also an excellent low fat meat, but there is a season on
them in most states so you have to have a hunting license and observe
bag limits. Eating them out of season can get you arrested and fined for
poaching.
Pigeons are also covered in some states as they are classified as "rock
doves" so can only be hunted with a license during dove season.
Possums are not protected anywhere that I know of and are plentiful in
the south, but I'd not eat one of those nasty critters on a bet!
Ok, I think that's enough. <lol> I'm yankin' your chain. ;-)
From what I've seen of pics of you, I don't think you need to worryabout fat in your diet. Cutting back on fat is more for calorie
reduction than anything else I think, but it's a good idea for health
reasons to cut back on saturated fats.
Oddly enough, the leaner cuts of beef (with the notable exception of
ground beef!) are generally cheaper as they are not as tender as well
marbled beef, nor are they as flavorful. I do purchase top and trimmed
bottom round, but I generally make steak tartar out of it. It's more
tender served raw.
