It is. ;-)
We could not stand to lose our favorite troll...
Troll? What is this troll of which you spea... never mind.
<winks>
Who would we torment?
Ooh, ooh! I have recommendations. Now, where did I put that list?
<steeples fingers> Do tell?
Sending positive thoughts your way that it is indeed nothing.
Cool. Thanks again.
:-)
Zits? Seriously, cut back on sugar. I _am_ 44
(points)
HA! You're oooooold. ;o)
Never denied it. <G>

Sugar attacks bring them on with a vengeance. I'm not kidding.
Well, both of my parents had/have "bad skin" and so I would be inclined
to believe it's more genetic than diet-related. And I have been
alcohol-free and soda-free for some time now. Some time defined as at
least a few months.
Otoh, I just took a peek at the Body Fortress creatine I have here... 1
scoop is 43 grams while the sugars are listed as 32 grams? Zoinks!
Their whey, however is 30 grams a scoop and 1 gram of sugars. I really
hadn't been taking the creatine with any regularity, but I'm on the
whey every two or three hours while at home and on the weekends.
I always went for carb free whey for that very reason.
I'm borderline type II so I have to pay attention. My last fbs was 97 so
the numbers are moving in the right direction. ;-)
Again, I believe it's more genetic - my complexion - than dietary. The
example I was given was that children can eat chips and chocolate to
the point of it coming out their ears but then as they age, although
their diet hasn't changed, suddenly they find themselves facing (no pun
intended) acne. My acne (cystic at that) was located primarily on my
back. Accutane finally fixed that problem, but my oily skin persists.
And that's absolutely genetic. My body has more oil glands than many
other bodies. Dry skin versus "regular" skin versus oily skin. It's
nature. Diet won't change the number of oil glands, right? Likewise, I
don't see how a soda will necessarily change your friend's complexion.
No, but higher blood sugar levels feed the bacteria that creates the
infections that creates the zits... Many bacteria thrive on glucose.
Otoh, it's hard to argue with anecdotal evidence as you've described
and your friend experienced. I'd certainly cut out the cola if I was
her.
Your friend is 30 and had her teeth yanked?
Lower income bracket. It happens. <sigh> I still have all of mine and
only maybe 6 fillings, but that seems to be genetic too somewhat. And I
really do watch my diet.
I even have my wisdom teeth. ;-)
My teeth suck for the most
part, but I'd rather not part with them. A bridge, some caps,
multi-colored, and tons of fillings, but I'm unconcerned, I still brush
twice daily and floss every night. Hnh.
There is some evidence that over-brushing can damage teeth by wearing
off the enamel. Toothpaste = abrasives.
I only brush once per day when I take a shower. Always have. Mouthwash
is a good thing.
I do floss after eating tho'. More effective than toothpicks and it
works better. Cinnamon "flavored" floss has some anti-bacterial
properties too.
Muscle Worship trivia: I believe I read somewhere that Jay Cutler, Mr.
Olympia competitor, brushes and flosses something like seven times
daily. Wtf? That's serious dental determination if it's true.
Wonder how his teeth really are?
IMHO soft drinks are one of the greatest evils on the planet. I have
maybe 2 or 3 diet sodas per year but I mostly stick with water and iced
tea, and some alcoholic beverages. My zit problem has never been better
and if one or two do show up, Erygel (prescription topical alcohol gel
with erythromycin) clears it up quickly.
Yep, I'm familiar with erythro. And accutane and tetracycline and...
I think tetracycline did a number on my teeth, though. I've read that's
the case for some. (Google search string "tetracycline and teeth
appearance")
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=tetracycline+and+teeth+appearance
I don't use that stuff..... The other thing about sodas is not just the
sugar. They also contain carbonic acid which can eat your teeth.
Hnh.
Back to the sugar. I have, however, always been a fan of sugary
cereals. Sugar Pops, Froot Loops, Fruity Pebbles, Cap'n Crunch, you
name it! Recently, though, I've been enjoying oat meal and shredded
wheat instead. Okay, "enjoying" is a euphemism for somethingsomething.
;-)
The Abs Diet that I've been barking about enthusiastically has some
stern words regarding HFCS. The book lists regular soft drinks,
commercial candy, pancake syrup, frozen yogurt, fruit-flavored yogurt,
highly sweetened cereals, pasta sauce, and energy bars as high in HFCS
or fructose. They offer some reasonable substitutes, of course. Like
you, I've been sticking to water and unsweetened iced tea.
Well, I'm preaching to the choir, I suspect, so...
Indeed... So just for grins, try giving up simple sugars for 2 weeks and
see if the acne goes away.
Can't hurt. ;-)
Then get back to me, if you can do it. Sugar addiction IMHO is every bit
as bad as caffeine and nicotine. And it can truly be an addiction.

Peace!
