How much time should I put in gym?



I just joined a gym again. I have to take off between 20 to 30 pounds
of fat. Is there a good tutorial online on what kind of weights I
should lift? How much? How about cardio?
I also have to get my cholesterol down.

Any online training manuel would be of great help.
