re AS and AS ;o)

Funny thing is, in the 2002 version of PI, he mentioned something like
"taking 3 Dianabols a day."
Any experienced user can tell you that a 20 year old guy can make some
fair
gaines on 20mg, prefferably stacked with 200 Deca, Primo, or 250 test.
Arnold, i suspect, went up 20 tabs/day or so.

Iirc, Wendy Leigh included in her book - Arnold: An Unauthorized
Biography - something about him taking truckloads of gear. He, if
anyone, certainly would have had the opportunity and, considering it
was all legal at the time, why shouldn't he have taken steroids?

And when he lived in Austria, Primobolan, made by Shering in Germany, And
Dianabol, made by Ciby-Geigy in Swiss, were soooo easy to get in those days.
Didnt he mention something about "Kurt Manul" in his book?
A doctor? BTW, many people claim the aforementioned AS made Arnold who he
was.

re http://www.classicbodybuilders.com/bodybuilder/haroldpoole1.jpg

Massive, but poor selection of pose.
His massive waist is too pronounced and the shoulder width appears to be
mediocre.

It's always you with the shoulder width. If you weren't in
Amsterdam... and 260 (skinny?) pounds and muuuuuuch stronger than me
and...

Hehehe... Well, you are an inch taller.

Well, I suppose I'm left to create posts of why people should hate
you. (See elsewhere in this newsgroup.)

Yeah, i saw it.
But with my charming personality, its impossible for people to hate me ;)

I have seen him at much better angles.

This image is not much better, but...
http://www.fitplus.cz/allpic/mf/f_91.jpg

Google images didn't really have much to offer, but I'm certain there
are great shots available online. Some good info:
http://www.ifbb.com/halloffame/2004/poole.html

I have seen better pics. Probably in some old mags.

Leroy Colbert was the first who broke the 20 inch "barrier."
Very good bodybuilder.

Is 20 inches hype or serious? Darden's one book - The Nautilus
Bodybuilding Book - offers that Sergio's arm was, "20 1/8 inches cold,
measured at right angles to the bone with a tissue paper-thin tape, on
the first flex after arising in the morning. Sergio's arm literally
dwarfed the other arms I've seen since then." That's according to
Arthur Jones.

Arthur Jones once said that the upper arms should be measured not flexed
and/or pumped.
Sergio was the only with a genuine 20 inch arm. According to Jones.
Arnold was measured at 19 1/2.

So, I have to wonder if any other measurement claim is truthful. I
know that Schwarzenegger allowed 6'2" to be touted as his height which
was fudging if only slightly. What was there to prevent him from also
fudging or exaggerating his arm measurement?

I think 22 inch was real. Perhaps even half an inch more, on a good day in
73.
AS can give freaky pumps, so i think its possible. I had 16 inch lower arms
2 years ago. I am not boasting, they really were. Measuered after a VERY
intense session... (and on a huge dose of AS)

I'm fuzzy on the time frame as well as if the words "almost" or "more
than" were used but in one of the bajillion (speaking of exaggeration)
books and magazines I've read about bodybuilding and Arnold, the
number 50 cm was mentioned in connection with Arnold's arm. That's
less than 19 3/4 inches.

20 inch is 20x2.54 right? so thats 50.8 cm. Yes, the above is correct.

re Arnold current physique(?)

Really? That bad?

Did you mean Arnie's beach bod? If you did and if the images available
are actual then yes, unfortunately, I look better than Arnold today.
D'OH! But if you had hundreds of millions in the bank, a loving wife,
a successful career (to say the least), wouldn't you be tempted to
just let it go a bit and enjoy some... excess?

Yeah, i think he doesnt lose one night sleep over it. He had a great time
when he competed, and people around the globe know he was a bodybuilder
once. So he is not complainig.

I noticed that sometimes it appears he has trouble speaking.
Maybe he never fully recovered.

You do mean Arnold, don't you?

Yes.

I remember the only movie i saw Dave in, "Dont make Waves."
He looked pretty good in that movie.

Yeah, I remember seeing that as a kid. There were other well built
personalities in that flick. Tony Curtis was no slouch for the average
build, actually. But Reg Lewis is listed in the credits to Don't Make
Waves on its IMDb page. And I seem to recall Peter Lupus being in that
flick, too. Larry Scott maybe? Chet Yorton, too. Saw that at
www.briansdriveintheater.com.

Yeah, i believe Larry was in that movie. Looked awesome.

And this may be of interest to movie and bodybuilding fans:
http://www.briansdriveintheater.com/hercules.html

I scrolled down and noticed David and Peter Paul. They never competed.
Like Victor Richards. Vic had a shot at the title, IMO. In 1984, he was
already 270 at a very young age.
He once posed together with Dorian at an exhibition. Many claim he was just
as good. If not better.

I saw the pictures of the 1968 Universe.
Arnold was huge, but his skin was almost white, and he looked a bit
bloated.
White those stage lights, you "dissapear."

Zane, in that particular contest, was in much better shape.

No doubt. But if push had come to shove or if Arnold actually had been
tanned and cut then I - for the sake of commenting on the hypothetical
- believe that Joe Weider would have put the kibosh on a
Schwarzenegger win as insurance for his investment.

Yeah, i think so.
Arnold knew UP front what Zane would have looked like.
Something similair happened in London 1966, with Chet Yorton.

re Weider

If you rest between sets, you are using the "Weider Rest in Between Sets
Principle."
If you sweat, you use the sweat prnciple. Scary thing is that many young
bodybuilders actually believed his shit.

heh

I often thought the same thing. The Weider Sweat Principle - classic.
:o)

The man is incredible. If you just do something you like, for whatever
reason, you are using the "Weider Instinctive Training Principle." I mean,
you are using HIS principle...

I think Arnold became familiar with Sun-rays, diet and last but not least,
diuretics.

And working out with the likes of Draper and Ed Corney, Ken Waller,
etc. certainly was of benefit to Schwarzenegger's success.

It sure did.
I believe Eddie Guilliani thought him a few "tricks."

Just make sure you train your arms with light weights, so the veins come
out. Shave down, and get a tan.
Not only will the tan helps you look bigger, but the skin seems to tighten
around the muscles.

I'm sure that's all correct, Pete, but it makes me think of the
supplement models and their before and after shots. Hilarious at
times. Before shot - the big bozo shorts with the crappy pattern,
hairy body, *fluorescent* white skin, typically a frown and then the
After shot - shaved, tanned, posing trunks, smiling and flexing to
beat the band.

Yup.
But it WORKS! Really, it does...

I still havent seen that one.
BTW, the first time i boufgt a mag, in November 82 if i am not mistaken,
Rachel was on the cover.
I believe together with Bob Birdsong. Anyway, the magazine stood out
because
she was on front.
If only she had gained 20-30 pounds ;-(

She is a hottie. Beautiful and sleek with nice muscles, but not the
female bodybuilder I'd hold as the ideal. Juliette is one who deserves
the title of ideal as is Lenda, Anja Langer, Dayana Cadeau, and Yaxeni
Oriquen as well.

I would like to see Dayana, Lenda and Yolanda Hughes... get "together."
That would make a nice video.

"Do steroids make you deaf !?!?!?"

That was in Running Man?

Yeah!
It was the quiz-host talking to Sven.

Arnold's one-liners made his films even more
enjoyable than they'd been without 'em. I give credit to Arnold's
self-deprecating humor as well as the excellent writers who've
supplied stuff like "I'll be back." and "I lied." Classic Arnold.

I believe "I lied!" was first said to David Patrick Kelly
(""waarrrioooors come out to plaaaaaahhhhaaaaaaayyyyy!!!!!") in Commando.

I once read that the two were difficult to compare.
Reeves had a tiny waist, flaring lats and broad shoulders, but Grimek was
more massive, rugged.
Bob Paris and Casey Viator come to mind. Which one is better?

If I had my druthers, I'd look like Reeves or Paris over Grimek and
Viator. But Viator *looked* the strongest of them all.

Broad waist.
He looked at his best when he was younger.

Unbelieveable... Also, his thighs appear bigger then his
waist.

(Julliette, in her prime, DID have upper legs bigger then her waist)
Robbie had more mass, but not at the expense of proportion, symmetry or
defenition.

Well, Weider has certainly atoned for any rumors of racism in the
convening years. Regardless, ROBbie was ROBbed on more than one
occasion, imo.

Yes. I thought it was a tie between him an Callendeer.
BTW, what about Roger Walker in 75 when he lost to Waller?
Walker was VERY impressive. Look at Walkers face in PI.

Yes, i have a video with Haney. I was pleasantly surprised that the man is
very articulate.
When he speaks, you actually enjoy listening to him. With Coleman its a
little different...

Yes, Haney is a great speaker. I've only caught one clip of Coleman
speaking.

I just downloaded "On the Road"...
Sometimes i think its better if he keeps his lips closed.
See for yourself, and let me know what you think.

For myself, i dont like to run, but climbing stairs is no problem
I was very close to 300 pounds 2 years ago (134 kilos) and felt pretty
good.
I lost the mass slowly until i was 280. Then i stayed around 270 for a
year.
Right now i am 260.
And i feel skinny. I am not kidding...

It's all relative, so if you had been 300 then 260 would definitely
feel "light". But, yeah, cry me a river. You'll forgive my
170-something self if I don't offer you too much sympathy over being
"skinny", okay? ;o)

Yeah, yeah... BTW, i think i will put on some pounds pretty soon. Just a
little.

But i am a bit worried lately. Maybe the heart can only support that much
weight. All my organs are in tip-top shape BTW, including the liver and
kidneys. But for the Pros its a little different. I "only" used AS, i stay
away from GH, insuline, diuretics, etc.

I wonder about that especially with the deaths of more than one of the
strongmen in the past years. Genetic? Due to drug use? Related to
weight and/or over exertion? "Get that stress test or have your ticker
looked over!" is perhaps sound advice for all of us.

Training at that level has NOTHING to do with traning for heatlh sake.

Maybe it was better if he stepped onstage in 81...
Shit no, i take that back! Columbo ;)

I wonder if Columbu's Arnold connection or his own legacy would have
held off an assault by an in-shape Mentzer. Mike may have found
himself in the top spot or back in 5th place again.

True.
But there was always 82. Mike had Dickerson hands DOWN! Too bad...

No, i mean people not involved in this sport.
Name all the Mr. Olympias, and they probably never heard of them.

I am not into basketball or golf, but Jordan and Woods ring a bell.

Oh! I see what you mean. But then I'm the odd man out so far as that
goes. I recognize all the stars of the sport from yesteryear to the
current day.

I love the old "superbouts" with Ali. I allready have several files with
Tyson. Very Amusing.

I think when Ronnie retires, Jay doesnt have the energy to compete
anymore.
I wonder who will be next.

Ah, perfect opportunity for a prediction...

Mark Dugdale.

Orville Burke

In 82, Bertil Fox was freaky.

In jail for murder or murderS, right?

Ehhh... he also shot his mother in law, so that doesnt count.
Misdemeanor at best.

Lance Dreher was bloated, but he had freaky potential.

Another builder with incredible arms, but his chest always seemed to
be a problem from what I read in the magazines.

That and the fact he appeared bloated onstage several times.

Its just too bad Gunnar Rosbo never made it to the Pros.
Most freaky triceps and lower arms i have ever seen. In that Era.

Yes, I remember Rosbo. Incredible. And a smoker, too, iirc. Health
sticks! And speaking of never making it to the pros... Matt Mendenhall
<http://www.ironage.us/gallery/bodybuilders/mendenhall.html>. It is a
crime that he was never a pro. What was the deal there?

He lost to whathisname in 81, and in 82 he lost to... Haney.
The Americans RULED in 82. Haney, Maldonado, Ruplinger (the man with the
hollow bones)
And that little French looking fella.

Self
destructed when it came time to cut for a contest?

No, he was i good shape.
I believe in 81 he had a ruptured pec, and in 82 there was Haney.

I can't imagine
anyone could beat the guy otherwise.

Haney!
His arms, upper and lower, were better then Haney, BTW.

Yeah, his upper body was incredeble. Especially relaxed from a twisted (45
degree) angle.
And i like his style: "You look like i can take you"
Has anyone else ever said that to Arnold? Not in front of a camera...

And, coming from Nubret, it's not arrogance either. Just matter of
fact confidence and solid belief. Okay, maybe a bit of cockiness and
competitiveness. Not a bad thing to have when approaching Arnold, I
suspect.

If he came in 10 pounds heavier he could have taken him. But then he again
he propbably wont.

I once had an African girlfriend that looked like her. On some pictures
the
resemblence was scary.
She even had some deltoid and lat development, despite the fact that all
she
did was watching TV and eat bonbons.
(Tori, if you read this, i am kidding !!!. But you ARE short...)
Sometimes she would wear spandex and looked like an athlete walking around
the streets in the summer, and people were actually mistaken her for an
American sprinter.

You make it sooo easy to hate you. Tori, if you read this, don't go
back to Pete. Take a ride on the wild (and, yeah, *truly* skinny - not
that "260-pound skinny") side instead! ;o)

She likes beef. What can i say?

I scribbled, "Like you, I can talk about these things for hours, days,
more!"

And we have.
Keep pumping Curt!

Will do. I'm making progress. I'm already taller than Brink, more cut
than Williams, kinder to sheep than David (??!!!), and much prettier
than Cohen (bei mir bist du shayn).

Yeah... but is your name real? huh?

And, yes, I even aspire to have more fun on the weekends than Charles!
Every man must have his goals however unachievable them may seem.

Good lifting to you, Pete.

Leg day today.
Which is terrible for an insomniac ;)

----
Pete
