"What makes it all work is the combination of the unique shape of
the kettlebell and the way Pavel and crew teach it."
I wonder why you have to throw in mysticism with some
generally sound fitness advice.
"the unique shape"!!!
You must be joking! Unfortunately you kill your own credibility
by talking this way.
If I was concerned about being popular, well, ...
We had a kettlebell instructor come
to our gym for a few lessons and he was just as silly.
Typical personal instructor fare. No recognition that
basically everything works if you do it. Blanket statements
that THIS works the BEST! C'mon. If I lift a 20 lb
dumbbell or a 20 lb kettlebell, you're telling me the
effect on my body will be different? Please.
Yes, the effect is different. Pressing overhead, there is not a lot of
difference between a db and a kb, but there is some. However, for
swings, the difference is dramatic. Obviously 20 lbs. is very light and
you might not notice the difference, but double or triple that weight
and you'll start noticing the difference, I assure you.
What you're endorsing without clearly stating it is high rep
low weight workouts. Nothing wrong with that. Plenty
of people work out that way. The swinging part is
touchy for older folk with existing joint problems. Especially
lower back. Momentum based workouts are not for everyone.
You miss the point - learning to deal with momentum is what most people
need to train to make a brittle back less brittle. I count myself among
"older folk with existing joint problems," thank you very much,
including "especially lower back."
And I will encourage you and anyone else to look at my training log -
http://www.kbnj.com/log.htm - you'll see I do mostly presses and
deadlifts. The bulk of my lifting is heavy weight, low rep unless I
happen to be training for a GS competition as I've been for the last few
month. Typically I press, deadlift, then finish with swings.
Anyway, it's nice that your own combination of workouts
and diet are working for you. That's the combination
that counts (as I see it). Not shape of weights and
a method of instruction.
No, I don't agree. Whether what you're missing would help you achieve
your own goals I can't say, but you literally don't know what you're
missing.
