It also helps to tell him that you (me) are going to shoot "'em" and he (the Lab) is going to "go get them". He won't leave your side or your point of egress for the rest of the evening.
Mine does that when I put on my running shoes.
She goes into an immediate "heel" and won't let me out of her sight in case I pull one of those mean tricks where I go without her.
Labs are such good pets. They need love, fun and food. What a nice way to plan your day.
