You're not going to get an argument from me over the UN - they're
ineffectual at best, at worst....
But John - if we're talking purely in monetary terms, this is
something that the US can afford to fix. If something of a similar
scale happened in the UK it would also be affordable and I for one
would not look to or expect foreign *monetary* aid (specialist
equipment and skills that were not available locally in high enough
quantity is another matter). I would expect our government to pick up
the bill, which we the citizens would end up paying, of course.
It's just silly to expect countries with less money to help out
countries with far more money with *monetary* aid.
If you'd like foreign aid for the States so much then just stick
around 50 years or so. I'm sure China will then be able to help you
(and yes, all of us) out.
