I live 5 blocks from the ocean in Florida. I buy federal flood insurance. AS
far as I know, I am the only one in my neighborhood who does (although that
may not be true, I live in a pretty good place).
EVERYBODY asks me why?
I say, 'Because I do not want to be that ignorant boob on the tube saying,
"We didn't have no insurance and lost everything."'
When I tell people the cost, they always ask me why the federal flood
insurance is so inexpensive?
Easy, the government is going to bail everyone out anyway, so if they
charged too much, no one would buy it.
And I live in Jacksonville, probably the safest place for Hurricanes south
of North Caroline (we are in the pocket-armpit- area of
Florida-Georgia,--all Hurricanes take a northern track, so we are pretty
safe here).
After the hurricanes last year (my roof got a bit dinged--I replaced it this
year), I remember a lady on the tube talking about money that FEMA gave her.
Turns out they gave her too much and wanted some of it back. SHE WAS
OUTRAGED. After all, she had only spent money they gave her, money she was
entitled to!
I almost shot the television set.
I refuse to be one of those.
