The operative word being "usually." Sometimes, there is a message
worthy of response that is revealed by subsequent replies or in a new
thread (with a different subject header) that quotes from the earlier
thread. Rather than "piggybacking" on someone else's reply, it is
better to go back to the original and respond to it. I simply
identify the authors I don't wish to read, highlight their posts, and
click "Mark Read." Their messages are still available if I decide
them worthy of a response.

By the same token, I have plenty of hard drive space, so I personally
archive MFW for the purpose of reminding those x-no-archivers who
habitually falsify and misrepresent what they wrote earlier.
