Are any of you using LCD Computer Monitors? It seems they are the
latest thing because I see few CRT monitors anymore. I still have a
CRT and am happy with the picture, but I could use more desk space.
Do they have as good of a picture as a CRT? It's hard to compare in
the stores when they dont have any CRT monitors to compare to.
Other things. I was told that any LCD tv will work as a computer
monitor. Is that true? If so, it would mak more sense to get a tv so
I can use it for both.
I was also told that these LCD monitors have a "lightbulb" behind the
screen, which often burns out, and I guess they are very costly. If I
have to spend $50 or $100 or more each year for a bulb, I am not sure
if I am willing to do that. My CRT monitor is 7 years old and has
never needed anything except the electric to power it. I also heard
that LCD monitors and TVs use more electricity, and since my electric
bill is too high now, that is another concern.
LCD monitors generally consume less power than CRT ones of the same
screen size.
The bulbs are normally fluorescent lamps that last a long time. I see
enough monitors in offices of regular delivery customers, and I have yet
to hear of one having a lamp burn out. Makes em think the lamps are
probably mostly cold cathode fluorescent, and those pretty much don't
burn out but fade over the thousands or tens of thousands of operating
hours. LEDs may be starting to come into these for the light source, and
those last even longer.
