Why the hell would you bother to buy their receiver when DirecTV gives it to
you for nothing? You only pay the $4.99 per month for a second receiver.
And what good is the receiver if you don't subscribe to the service any
more, so why would you want to keep it?
My father lives in a community 20 miles away from a city with local stations.
He wants to receive those locals on his dish rahter than the ones mandated by
Directv... some 70 miles away in a community he's been in maybe half a dozen
times in his whole life. No matter what we did we coouldn't get them to budge
on this; he was part of "their demographic area" and that was it. Well, screw
them.
I went to Best Buy and bought new receivers to replace his rather tired ones.
Dad rented a post office box in the nearby town and then we told Directv we were
moving to the nearby town. Golly! Suddenly Dad was getting the local stations
he wanted in the first place, only we never quite got around to making thqat
move. He pays his bill on-line so Directv gets their money and is none the
wiser. As for the advertisers in Town B, 70 miles away, what of them? Dad was
never going to spend a dime in their town. They've lost nothing.
So why buy the receivers rather than just have Directv give them free and
install them? So we could follow our agenda, rather than theirs. After all,
we're the ones paying for it. We should be able to choose.
So screw them. Oh, I already said that.
