When I was in college, I had the same situation. What I did was to use
an air pistol that fired .177 pellets hard enough to hurt but not to
penetrate the skin. Didn't even have to hit the dog most of the time.
A near miss and it ran for its doghouse and was quiet the rest of the
night. The dog got conditioned so even opening my window was enough to
quiet it down. The kid that had that room the next year told me the
conditioning was still going strong the next school year.
Some years ago I did the same thing with a BB gun and the doberman that lived
across the creek from my apartment. That damned dog would bark any time I
stepped out onto my balcony. Finally I'd had enough and stepped out there with
the air rifle. ZING! Popped him right in the ass. He got this very surprised
look on his face and took off to hide in his doghouse.
The next day I shot him again after he barked at me. After that, all I had to
do was slide my patio door open and he took off. Problem solved. He didn't
bark and I didn't shoot. Everybody won.
just as he shot. He caught him right in the balls *he said they
swelled up before the cat hit the ground). The cat let out a blood-
curdling scream and took off, never to be seen in his yard again.
