I don't think you can go wrong with an oil filled electric radiator.
No moving parts, generally considered to be very safe. Only type of
heater that I will use when asleep. Holmes makes several models (I
have one and am very pleased) as do others. They are also completely
silent once they heat up (they tick as they expand when first turned
on). They only bugaboo is they do take time to heat up. If you only
need occasional spot heat you'll have to find something more direct,
on which I am not an expert.
