rational trade off of alternatives.

The fact of the matter is that the nu tjobs don't REALLY want
alternatives, they want government control and socialism over the
populace. That's why the likes of Ted Kennedy oppose a perfect clean
and save alternative of wind.

If solar energy suddenly became cost effective, they'd come up with
some other complaint, like birds are flying into the reflective
panels, or the amount of energy required to mine the silicon, or
*gasp* some solar panels are made with arsenic!

They're basically a more organized, generally less deadly version of
the Unibomber.
