Burned the ISO file to DVD-R using Roxio Easy Media Creator 9,
then finalized the disc.

Thats the giveaway, that finalized bit. You wrote the iso file
to the DVD, you didnt use the iso file to produce the DVD.
You need to use Disc Copier thats in the EMC package to produce the
DVD from the iso. You should be able to double click on the iso
file and that should load Disc Copier with that iso already
selected

Thanks Rod. If I click on the iso file, EMC comes up with the "burn
image to disc" option selected. I take it this is not correct, I'm
supposed to use the "copy disc" option? But then it's looking in the
DVD-ROM drive for the disc to copy, with no option to look on the
hard drive. Guess I'm still missing sumpthin. Sigh.

Disc Copier can be a little counter intuitive user interface wise.
There's a browse option where you specify where to look for the iso.
You can also right mouse click on the iso and 'burn with disk
copier' should be one of the popup menu items.

Tried the right-click, no option to burn with copier. "Copy disc" has
a drop-down for the source disc, only options are the DVD drives, no
option to browse.

You're right about the interface, it's pretty confusing.

Nero is much worse.

It offers:

Copy > Copy Disc

Copy > Burn Image

Thats the one you want.

Data > Copy Disc

Data > Data Disc

And then there are all the Video DVD options,
but nothing to image a video file to DVD.
