Here's the full link to the form. As you see, it's not applicable to the
OP:
http://www.usps.com/forms/_pdf/ps1500.pdf
The Prohibitory Order only works for advertising considered by the
recipient "erotically arousing or sexually provocative." Receiving junk
mail from DirectTV wouldn't fall under this situation. Unless one is a
total prude and the DirectTV was offering subscriptions to the Playboy
channel. To the OP, I say you waste too much time and energy on these
things, certainly you have more pressing issues with your life. Just toss
the junk mail in your recycling bin.
You are correct that is to ban mail that is "erotically arousing or
sexually provocative". However it also states that the recipient is the
SOLE judge of what THEY consider "erotically arousing or sexually
provocative". I can say that I find Direct TV ads to be "erotically
arousing or sexually provocative" and the USPS can't argue with MY
judgement.
Whomever wrote the form 1500 regulations was having an unusual attack
of good sense that day.
But given all that, I agree that its not worth my effort and just chuck
the junk mail in my paper recycling bin.
