Important business e-mail sent through Charter e-mail service on
Thursday morning. Saturday Charter aXXholes tell me they couldn't
deliver it. This is the second such important e-mail they have
dumped and told me several days later it bounced:

Your message was not delivered within 1 days and 0 hours.
Host mindspring.com is not responding.

This has nothing to do with Charter. Their e-mail queued up
your mail, then attempted to deliver it to mindspring.com.
Mindspring was not reachable, so your mail had nowhere to go.

The way mail systems work is that they retry on a periodic
basis. Charter probably tired a dozen or more times to deliver
you e-mail. Mail normally takes several days to bounce. If
this was the message that you go, a 1 day notice, that means
that Charter is still trying. Their mail system just wanted
to let you know that your message was still in the queue.

Many people misunderstand what E-mail is. There is no guaranteed
delivery or proof of delivery in E-mail. It should be treated
as a hobby or convenience, not a tool for transacting important
business. It is free, after all, and you get what you pay for.

Like the internet:
A fully redundant self-healing computer network to pass data from point to point.
But not guaranteed to be working when you need it ;-)
