Re: Don't buy Leadtek computer products!

My computer's been acting very strange the past couple of months
and lately got really bad. The video would suddenly go away, long
bootup times, crashing of programs, programs would stall during
install, just a very unstable machine. Finally replaced the whole box
with another system. Today I tore apart the old system and found the
culprit: LEAKING AND BULGING CAPACITORS on the Leadtek card.
The company must have cut corners and purchased cheap eletrolytic caps.

Nope, its a problem that has bedevilled the entire industry.

Three of the 4 electrolytic cans were bulging on top and below,
one had oozed paste. The brand of caps is GSC, 1500uF, 6.3v.

I am not associated with this website but here's a place that describes
the problem with bad capacitors and why it's such a big problem:

http://www.badcaps.net/

It also points out that its a problem for the entire industry, not just Leadtek.

Anyway, really disappointed that the Leadtek
card is now bad, it was only 2 years old.

It would be worth seeing if they are prepared to replace it.

Threaten them with the small claims system if they refuse.

I rebuilt the system with a Matrox card and now the system
is back in business, very stable, no crashing or video winking
out. If you are in the market for a new PC video card or are
just looking at Leadtek products, proceed with caution.

Its a problem for the entire industry, not just Leadtek.

The badcaps website lists other manufacturers who also may be cutting corners.

It doesnt say anything about cutting corners, that's YOUR pig ignorant claim.

I've bought ATI and Matrox cards for years, the
Leadtek was a one-time thing and will be my last.

Pity both of those have seen the problem too.
