32-bit CPUs can generally address a maximum of 2 gigabytes of memory.
There are few tricks people can do to get up to 16GB, but 64-bit
prices
and technology are declining enough to avoid special memory hardware.
In the workstation world, 16 gigabyte 64-bit CPUs are fairly standard
now.

Since Vista came out the standard PC configuration is I-GB/100+GB.
We are talkign about $700 for a decent minimal Vista configuration,
$5000 for a workstation.
