Re: The guys lost on that mountain

Everybody takes avoidable risks to some extent. Some people
smoke. Some drive motorcycles. As a society, we agree to
rescue people from risky behavior.

While this is an extreme case, and extra costs SHOULD be
borne by the rescued and recovered -- we do want emergency
services available for disasters. The equipment and personnel
need to be exercised. The real problem here is all the
additional people put at risk in the search and rescue operation.
If you skydive and your parachute fails, you're pretty much
the only one at risk.

For well over a week all the news has been about these guys lost on
that mountain in the snow. While I feel sorry for them, and even more
sorry for their families, I must be honest about this, even if it
sounds cruel.

If these guys risked their lives, they paid the price with their
lives. What upsets me, is how much taxpayers money was wasted to find
them? If people are stupid enough to risk their lives for no purpose
whatsoever, except to satisfy some deranged inner goal derived from
excessive testosterone, why should "WE" have to pay for their rescue?
