KTLA is reporting that Radio Shack fired some 400 employees via

jobs via an e-mail message!

While it's tacky, Radio Shack told employees that notices would be
given out via e-mail before it happened.

Of course, they don't write sales tickets by hand anymore; they have
computerized point-of-sale termials with barcode scanner wands. I
guess they have now improved the efficiency of their firing, as well.

I also worked there for 2 years when I was 18 & 19. It was a decent
job at the time (let's see, 1987,88, or it might have been 88-89). The
manager hooked me up so that I was THE computer guy in the store, since
the rest of the bozos were pretty computer deficient. I probably made
$10/hour back then, and we had a great location. Not too shabby for
someone with no experience.
