My question was simple: Are the local affiliates (QAM encoded) HDTV
signals encrypted or not?
You can probably look at your digitial channel lineup to find out if the
local channels are broadcasting in HDTV. Our local channels do, and you can
find the special HD broadcast channel in high numbers (300s and 400s here)
in the channel listing. It will be listed something like this: our local
CBS station is WFSB, in the HD channel listing it says FSBHD.
And, if it is any consolation, any cable company I have ever dealt with
anywhere is equally moronic and unable to provide customer service of any
sort.
