Influent/BofA insurance telemarketing calls

There have been a growing number of people reporting getting
phone calls, with Influent 614-652-6186 on the Caller ID, but if
you pick up the phone often there is half a minute of silence
and then a hangup. Typically these will repeat at least a
couple of times a day. They can also come from other phone
numbers or show up as Out Of Area on some of the calls.
I finally did get an answer when I picked up the phone. He
says that since I'm such a good Bank of America customer they
want to give me a terrific offer on insurance, claims to be
representing Bank of America and selling oddball forms of
insurance, "emergency room visit" insurance and other things
like that. I decline.
Then I wander down to the Bank of America branch and tell them
that I'm getting these. They immediately say this must be
fraud, they would never do that. They check and confirm that
I'm opted out of every form of contact from BofA.
And tonight it happens again. But this time I'm ready for him.
He knows my name, address, says I'm a Bank of America customer,
doesn't ask me to give him my account number or SSN, and wants
to sign me up. I start probing. I explain how I went to BofA a
few hours before and they say BofA wouldn't do this. Then he
says that he represents BanC of America, not BanK of America.
He explains that the people at the branch don't know what they
are talking about. I explain how I'm on the national Do Not
Call List, on the DMA do not mail list, on the credit offer do
not contact list. And I tell him that his company is getting a
rep on the net, people are posting about all the silent calls
from Influent with the phone number. He starts paddling in
circles, claiming he is a manager and working there today to
figure out why people are getting calls with nobody there, how
he can take me off their list, etc, etc. He tells me that he
represents Charter Marketing, regresents AIG, has a number
866-879-0179.
If you are getting calls like this Influent appears to be the
new kid on the block of telemarketing the planet.
