How come gas prices are going up?

Because "He who has the money rules!"

And those who have the money (large corporations) seem to be firmly in
control of our country. Large corporations want profit period. They could
care less about your or I. Try writing your elected representatives and see
how much they listen to what you have to say. Not much in my case. But I
don't give them large campaign contributions either, so why should they
listen to what I have to say?

If our elected representatives truly wanted to do what was best for you and
I, they could do it. They could direct vast resources toward switching to
non-oil based energy and in a few years we could greatly reduce our
dependence on oil. But there is no profit in this for the large oil
companies, so it will not happen... BTW - I have read many books on how our
government works. I have come to the conclusion that many of our elected
representatives personally would like to "do the right thing", however party
politics and the system prevent them from voting the way they personally
would like to. Listen to what retired elected representatives have to say
about things - they sing a different tune than when they were in office.
They say the same things you and I do.

And how do we fix this? I don't know...

Vote for those who owe the fewest favors to campaign contributors.
Voters need to make it clear that more campaign ads will stop buying
votes. And vote in the primary elections!
