I would think that would be a judgment call on the part of the store
manager. And if you keep buying stuff which quickly stops working, then I
would think it would be a good idea on their part to offer you a coupon for
your trouble, etc. or at least a letter saying they are sorry for the
trouble or whatever.
If someone is breaking things through neglect, or returning things which
still are operational and they have changed their mind about buying it, then
that is different.
I went several years without returning anything anywhere, then all of a
sudden I needed to return about 6 things I bought to various stores. One of
these was hot dog buns I bought at the grocery store which I saw had mold on
them when I got home. I returned that right away of course. They gave me my
money back.
