Re: Strange Banking Rules

I once deposited my paycheck into my account (which I had for many years
prior) and the teller said they were going to put a 3 day hold on the check.
I asked why. She said they were not "familiar" with the bank the check was
written on. I pointed out the window and said "well I don't know how you are
not familiar with that bank, they are right across the street over there!"
She gave me a nasty look...

So next time, I first went to the bank across the street and cashed my
check, then deposited the cash in my bank. But then the bank across the
street gave me all sorts of trouble because I didn't have an account there.

Another time I tried cashing a rent deposit refund check at a different
branch of a bank than the branch the check was from (to avoid the 3 day hold
at my bank). They said I would need to go to that specific branch to cash
the check. (That branch was 60 miles away.) So instead I opened a savings
account with the check - $100 minimum to open the account and check was like
$400. So on the deposit slip I listed the $400 check with $300 cash back.
They *were* able to do that. Then the next day I went back, withdrew my $100
and closed the savings account!
