Or grow food in the oceans. Or change to a more sustainable diet that
requires less land per person. But, no plant is 100% oil, so food could
be made from the remainder of the seeds, which in some cases can be
highly nutritious and high in protein. And alcohol could be made from
the remaining parts of plants.

My take on it is the only feasible way out is for everyone to vastly
reduce their energy consumption, combined with some acceptable form of
population control. To be honest, the more I think about things, the
more it seems that the society I live in (UK) is grossly wasteful of
energy. All those powerful light structures. Huge numbers of cars per
person. Houses at tropical heat levels all year through, etc. etc. etc.
