I TOTALLY agree with your math.
I just didn't have the $800.00 for this one new, back then.
I had thought about getting a new softener.
I lease the one I have now. $25 a month.
The amount I have spent by now could have bought a Cadillac.
just could not afford the new cost, and small monthly payments are not so
bad.
You should try doing the math. A great water softener can be had
from Sears for $519. That is 21 months of payments at $25 per
month. You can put it on your credit card so you don't have
to pay up front. You will save at least 3 bags of salt per
month, which will save you $12 a month. If you factor in the
savings, your net cost over 2 years is $237, less than 10 of
your current payments. Over 5 years, you save $1700 compared
with the rental. Don't tell me that you cannot afford to have
a $1700 profit.
