You could also try another wireless router. You can get one for $50,
probably even less if you wait for a good deal, so it's pretty
reasonable cost to try. The downside is they don't seem to last very
long, at least the Dlink ones. I'm on my 2nd Dlink, first lasted
about 2 years. My friend is on his 3rd, each lasted about 2 years
also.
As Todd pointed out, it's impossible to tell you much, since we don't
know if you're having trouble connecting in a straight clear line in
the same room or diagonally from upstairs at one end of the house to
the basement at the opposite end. One is best case, the other typical
worst case. I'd also see if the problem persists when you power down
the cordless phones and any other devices that might interfere.
If distance and obstacles are the problem, repeaters are available,
though I've never tried one to see how well they work.
