Re: Scientists find possible birth of tiniest known solar system

It seems certain that that the balance of energy is positive for all of
the planets?
If the surface is in thermal equilibrium, the radiated amount of heat
is the same as the amount of heat reaching the surface. This amount
consists of solar radiation _plus_ the heat produced by radioactivity
in the planet plus heat from other processes and minus the energy
which is converted into other forms of energy . The latter should be
neglectible, so you get at least the sum of solar radiation and the
heat produced by radioactivity as emitted radiation.
In the case of Earth I've heard something new about
nuclear fission in the core, is that right?
I don't think the concentration of fissile material is high enough to
start fission, but in all inner planets, radioactive isotopes _are_
present, so there has to be radioactive decay as source of energy.
