I understand the problem as follows: the poster wishes to change the
name of the table of contents to reflect German usage, and wishes to
use babel to do it. The problem is that poemscol does not use the

Ja und Nein.

Ich moechte babel benutzen, weil in dem Buch nicht nur Gedichte,
sondern auch andere Texte enthalten sein sollen. Und babel macht vieles
einfacher.

usual LaTeX table of contents macros, so changing the name of the
contents as babel would do it won't work. There are commands in
poemscol itself, however, for changing the table of contents name, the
names of all the notes sections, and what abbreviations poemscol uses
to refer to pages (p. or pp. in English). They are described on page
36 of the manual.

Das verstehe ich und wuerde ich auch nutzen.

Aber trotzdem wuerde ich fuer die anderen Texte auch gerne babel laden.

To change the name of the table of contents, use \changecontentsname,
e=2Eg.

To change the name of
the Table of Contents (the default is CONTENTS) to Inhaltsverzeichnis,
issue
\changecontentsname{Inhaltsverzeichnis}. To change the running header
on
contents pages, issue \changecontentsheader{Inhaltsverzeichnis}.

Wenn ich komplett auf babel verzichte, ist das kein Problem.
