Eben es geht um ein Software BIOS raid.

Wenn Du verraten hättest, welcher Controller, hätte man evtl. schauen
können, ob der vom kernel (welcher ist denn das bei SuSE 9.3)
unterstützt wird.

Bei Deinen Voraussetzungen würde ich auch wirklich nur dann zu diesem
RAID 1 greifen, wenn es Dir um 24/7 Verfügbarkeit der Daten geht. In
diesem Fall hättest Du wohl zu einem besseren (= Hardware-Controller
e.g. 3ware) gegriffen.

Geht es Dir um die Sicherung Deiner Daten, pack die 2. Platte in ein
hot-plugable tray, eine usb/ieee1394 box oder ähnliches und spiegel die
erste Platte regelmäßig.

Damit überlebt diese (nachts unter Deinem Kopfkissen liegende)
Sicherungsplatte auch, wenn Deine Kiste total abfackelt, Dein controller
mal 'ne Macke hat, eine neues Bios das Raid zerschiesst .....
