sendmail ignoriert nsswitch

Hi,

ich habe gerade mühsam ein eigentlich simples szenario
zum Laufen bekommen.

Ein FreeBSD-Host mit sehr begreenzter Weltsicht soll hin und
wieder Mail verschicken.

Dazu hat er genau einen Smarthost und genau gar keinen DNS.

Das Smarthost-Feature - wiewohl richtig konfigurieret - wird
von sendmail fröhlich ignoriert.

Ebenfalls ignoriert wird
- der Smarthost als name, der in /etc/hosts steht
- beide Varianten in eckigen Klammern

Erst wenn man ein file /etc/mail/service.switch anlegt und mit

"hosts files"

befüllt, wird plötzlich das Smarthost Makro korrekt ausgewertet
und die Mail ausgeliefert. Ohne das landet die Mail in der
clientmailqueue und wird nah einigen Stunden mit "DNS Error"
gebounced.

Dieses File ist unter FreeBSD völlig undokumentiert. Auch die
diversen Anleitungen für die Smarthost-Verwendung erwähnen es
nicht.

Frage(n):

- sollte sendmail nicht /etc/nsswitch.conf auswerten?
- gibts ein setting, das DNS anders unterdrückt ?
- sollte Smarthost nicht auf jeden Fall gehen (IIRC war
das früher so)
- oder macht das sowieso jedermann heute per mailertable ?

Und, nein, Postfix ist an genau dieser Stelle nicht angesagt.
