Seguendo questo mini-tutorial potremo impostare iChat (versione 3.0,
quello fornito con Tiger) in modo da avere anche i contatti di MSN.
Precisiamo subito che non si vedranno gli avatar degli utenti MSN e
tantomeno potremo trasferire files (audio e video naturalmente
scordiamocelo), quindi solo chat.

Ecco i passi da fare:

- Scarichiamo il programma Jabber PSI: http://psi.affinix.com

- Alla prima schermata, inseriamo un nick (decidetene voi uno nuovo),
spuntiamo la casella "Register New Account" e clicchiamo sul pulsante
per continuare.

- Alla schermata successiva dovremo registrarci ad un server Jabber.
Useremo il server jabber.org.uk, il nostro NOME UTENTE che dovremo
inserire nel campo JABBER ID per la registrazione sarà
nomeutente@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Inseriamo quindi un nome utente (seguito da
@jabber.org.uk) e una password.
Spuntiamo, sotto, la casella "Manually specify Server Host/Port" e nel
campo Host scriviamo jabber.org.uk. Lasciamo la porta 5222 e clicchiamo
su Register.

- Ci dovrebbe apparire una finestra con scritto "The account was
registered succesfully". Diamo l'OK, e andiamo sulla finestra dei
contatti di PSI.

- Vedremo il nostro nome che abbiamo inserito all'inizio con una
stellina nera. Facciamo CONTROL-CLICK sul nome (oppure click con il
pulsante destro del mouse) e clicchiamo su Status > Online.

- La nostra stellina diventerà ora gialla, siamo online.

- Compiliamo, se vogliamo, eventuali dati aggiuntivi per Jabber
(facoltativi), andiamo poi ancora sul nostro nome nella finestra di PSI
e, sempre con CONTROL-CLICK, selezioniamo la voce ACTIONS > SERVICE
DISCOVERY.

- Facciamo un doppio click su MSN TRANSPORT, e alla finestra successiva
scriviamo il nostro nome utente e password di MSN. Clicchiamo quindi su
REGISTER.

- Vedremo nella finestra dei contatti di PSI il nostro nome MSN con una
stellina NERA. Control-click e andiamo online.

- PSI ora scaricherà tutti i nostri contatti MSN. Fermiamoci qui,
chiudiamo PSI e passiamo a iChat.

- Andiamo quindi su iChat, andiamo nelle Preferenze, clicchiamo su
Account e clicchiamo sul + per aggiungere un account.

- Il tipo di account sarà JABBER, nel campo ID Jabber dovremo inserire
il nostro nomeutente@xxxxxxxxxxxxx e la relativa password.

- Clicchiamo su AGGIUNGI, e magicamente iChat inizierà ad aggiungere
tutti i contatti di MSN! Attenzione: ci apparirà una finestra per ogni
nostro contatto di MSN, che dovremo "autorizzare" da iChat per apparire
nella finestra dei contatti.

- Da oggi in poi avremo, con iChat, una finestra "Elenco Jabber" con i
contatti MSN. Purtroppo, come avevamo preannunciato, non vedremo gli
avatar degli utenti MSN, ma potremo comunque chattare. Il nostro status
verrà visto ma gli altri, come noi, non vedranno il nostro avatar.

transport MSN (con la stellina gialla su MSN), io ho scelto
12jabber.com. .

poi.. ho scaricato un programma chiamato PSI
(http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16827) ed ho fatto Account Setup.
Da qui ho messo Add Account, scelto nome account, selezionato su
Register new account e poi su Add. A questo punto ho inserito a JabberID
nomechemipare@xxxxxxxxxxxx e le password.. poi registra..
tzk, messaggio di conferma registrazione..
Poi sempre con PSI mi sono connesso a quel account, ricevendo un
messaggio di benvenuto.
Cliccato su General, poi Service Discovery e selezionato l'account mi
viene mostrata la lista di transport verso altri servizi di chat (aim,
icq, msn, yahoo...) a questo punto ho cliccato su MSN e nella finestra
di registrazione ho inserito il mio account MSN e la password.. Ho
ricevuto conferma dell'avvenuta registrazione..
Il server mi ha richiesto poi un'autorizzazione per l'inserimento dei
contatti MSN. Ho premuto authorize o roba simile ed i miei contatti che
avevo nel mio account msn sono stati inseriti nell'account jabber.
Cliccando su i singoli contatti ho poi scelto Authorize ad ognuno.
A questo punto ho chiuso il programma ed ho inserito i dati di account
jabber in ichat e sono riuscito ad avere i miei contatti msn su ichat
(nella finestra Jabber).

Attenzione, i contatti di msn appaiono un po' diversi quando inseriti in
jabber..
Per esempio pippo@xxxxxxxxxxx diventa
pippo%hotmail.com@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx in quanto si appoggia al server
anywise...

iChat non è in grado di settare bene gli utenti msn, quindi vi consiglio
di usare PSI per aggiungere i contatti msn (facilissimo, basta inserire
nuovo contatto e scegliere service MSN invece di jabber, inserire
l'account reale msn dell'utente di aggiungere e cliccare JabberID, poi
scegliere aggiungi e autorizzare l'utente).

Through Jabber, which is supported under iChat 3.0, it is possible to
login to many popular chat protocols that iChat did not traditionally
support. Jabber supports accessing chat networks, such as MSN, Yahoo!,
and ICQ, through entities called "gateways." iChat does not directly
support gateways, however you can create gateways using another Jabber
client. Once the gateways are setup in another program (for example,
psi), you can login to your Jabber account through iChat 3 and be able
to chat with your MSN/ICQ/Yahoo contacts.

You should have at least a basic understanding of the Jabber protocol
before attempting this.

Follow these steps.

1. Download a third-party Jabber client. (psi is a good choice)

2. Open Psi and register for a Jabber account. This can be done directly
from Psi. Enter the username (example: yourname@xxxxxxxxxxxx -
2entwine.net is a jabber server) and password you want. Then press the
"save" button. After registering, go to the status menu and choose
"online" from the list.

3. Go to the General menu and choose "Service Discovery." This will
probe your Jabber server for available gateways. Click on browse at the
top of the window to get a list of available protocols.

4. Find the protocol you want to add in the list, control-click on it,
and choose register. If you do not see the protocol you want (i.e. if
MSN or Yahoo isn't there), then you will need to find another Jabber
server that supports it. 2entwine.net supports MSN, Yahoo, AIM, and ICQ.
I would recommend that you use it.

5. Save your registration information and quit Psi. Then open iChat and
add your Jabber account in iChat's preferences. Be careful that you've
chosen the correct port under server settings (iChat uses 5223 for
Jabber by default, but, for example, 2entwine uses port 5222).

And that's all. Your non-AIM contacts will appear in iChat.

The following technologies are not yet supported in Jabber:

File transfers
Audio/Video Chat (or iChat AV)
MSN, Yahoo, and ICQ profiles

Essentially, you will only be able to text-chat.
