Re: clean look

I recently install 'ubuntu' by accident, meaning to install 'kubuntu'. I found that their gnome implementation was very clean, uncongested, small borders on windows, smaller icons, smaller tool bars, etc.

I think ubuntu has Gnome2 and not Gnome as it's default desktop.

What I was wondering, is there a theme that has a 'clean' look to it, that someone can suggest? Or kontrol panel tweaks to the ui/look that you KDE users have found useful.

I don't know what theme ubuntu uses by default, but as far as I have understood quite many uses Crux as the default gtk2 theme, this one has it's own KDE versions

If you want smaller icons for KDE, then in the control center:
Appearance & Themes/Icons/Advanced/Use of Icon

Just modify the size, you can select different size for different parts of KDE or just use one and the same size in all parts.

If you want smaller panel, then in the control center:
Desktop/Panels/Arrangement/Size

Select Custom and set how high in pixels the panels should be, this can be done per panel or for all panels.

If you want smaller window borders, then in the control center:
Appearance & Themes/Window Decorations/Window Decoration

Normal is the smallest size, but for most it's the same as in MetaCity, you may want to disable "Show window resize handle", and you get rid of those corner decoration that makes the window borders to look bigger.

If you want to make things the other way around in Gnome2, then you have to start hacking the source code, as Havoc is against allowing the users to do to much.
