SMB Browsing Problem

I can't browse/connect to Windows Shares from linux.

1) Two pc's on a home network:
- pc one is Win2k Pro
- pc two is SuSE Pro 9.3 & Win2k Pro dual-boot
- Samba server and client installed on pc two (SuSE)
- both pc's get dynamic IP addresses via DHCP.

2) When both pc's are booted into Win2k Pro, network
browsing and 'net use' work correctly.

3) When pc two is booted into SuSE Pro 9.3 browsing
does not work:
- pc one (Win2k) can see and connect to the linux
box fine (thanks to Samba server)
- pc two (linux) can not see pc one (Win2k):
a) clicking the desktop icon "Network Browsing" shows
"SMB Shares". clicking "SMB Shares" shows the
correct workgroup ("ACQMGR"). clicking "ACQMGR"
shows only the linux pc; the Win2k pc does not show.
b) konqueror with smb://RNA0175454A/C either
crashes or displays the error:
"Unknown error condition in stat: Connection timed out"
c) using KNetAttach:
- click "Microsoft Windows network drive" then "Next"
- enter Name = test, Server = RNA0175454A, folder = C,
then click "Connect" produces the error message:
"Unable to connect to server. Please check your settings
and try again."
d) repeating b, & c above using the IP address of the Win2k
pc instead of its name causes a differnet set of errors:
- using KNetAttach with Server = 192.168.1.101:
- asks for userid & password
- displays an empty window for the share
- asks for userid & password again
- display window for the remote share remains BLANK;
can't see any files or directories
- using konqueror and 'smb://192.168.1.101' prompts
for a userid and password, then displays the
available shares on the Win2k pc. clicking the
share named "C" displays an empty window; no files or
directories are listed.

The SuSE firewall was stopped during the above tests so that
I could be sure the firewall was not the problem. The userid
used for the attempts has "admin" authority on the Win2k pc.

What's wrong and how do I fix it?

Thanks & Regards,
Larry
