Indeed, but fortunately plain TeX users tend to be able to support
themselves (otherwise they wouldn't even use it, which leads me to a
question for eds: how come you dare use plain TeX and still call
yourself a "newbie" -- not that I criticize you, quite the contrary).
Being able to support one's self doesn't have any bearing one's status
as a
newbie. I don't know TeX and I think that's the only criteria that
has to be
satisfied for me to call myself a newbie.
I've created a couple of smaller documents with LaTeX. I found it
fairly
simple to produce documents with LaTeX if I liked the style of the
particular
document/macro package but I've yet to find a LaTeX document type that
was
right from my perspective.
I discovered TeX, when I looked inside LaTeX macro packages, and the
preamble
of a LaTeX document. After discovering the relationship between TeX
and LaTex,
I concluded that I had 2 options: (1) search through the large number
of LaTeX
packages and try out those that may work for me, or (2) spend my time
learning
TeX to do the simple stuff I need now and to develop my own small set
of macros
that can be expanded as I need more. I decided on the second option
reasoning
that if I ever did come across what I deem to be the perfect LaTeX
document
style, my TeX knowledge would still be useful.
