Summary description: Support files for SoftMaker free fonts.
License type: lppl
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In June 2009www.freefont.deoffered a beautiful handwriting font
for free download: The Softmaker Stone Handwriting.
As handwriting fonts are a quite limited resource in the LaTeX world,
i decided to create support files for this beautiful font. Therefore,
Stone Handwriting will be the starting point for the softmaker-freefont
bundle. Other fonts will be included in future.
Supported fonts at the moment:
Baskerville-Nova (regular + bold + italic + bold italic),
Congress (regular + bold + italic), Delano-Caps, Flagstaff, Henderson,
Iceberg (regular + bold), Jugendstil, Old Blackletter, Stone Handwriting
License: LPPL (not the fonts themselves)
New in v1.8:
- added support for the font family Baskerville-Nova
(regular + bold + italic + bold italic + faked slanted + faked small caps)
Attention: The font is not included! This font is font of the
month (February 2010) and can be downloaded for free (at least
this month) at:http://www.freefont.de
Later you can buy it from Softmaker

Rainer Schöpf
I would like to install the Baskerville-Nova available free this month
from softmaker-freefont. However, I am confused a bit about a few
things when I looked up the CTAN directory of support files for these
fonts.
The support files for softmaker fonts at CTAN do not seem to be
packaged (completely) as units. For any given font, only the .sty
and .fd files are packaged within one font directory while /tfm, /vf
and /map directories contain files or lines (in case of .map file)
for every font that has so far been released to TeX system. This has
led to some confusion for me and I would appreciate if someone could
help resolve it for me.
1. The installation instructions (README file) ask to put the .map
file under
localtexmf/fonts/map/dvips/softmaker-freefont/
directory. Now, this can work fine because there would be just one map
directory for all the softmaker fonts. My question here is that I do
not have installed on my system other softmaker fonts that have their
map instructions in this map file. Would this cause any problem? Or,
should I delete (or comment out) the lines for the uninstalled fonts
from the map file?
2. This one is probably trickier problem for me. All the .tfm and .vf
files for all softmaker fonts are in one huge /tfm or /vf directory.
However, the installation instructions ask to put the .tfm and .vf
files under:
localtexmf/fonts/tfm/softmaker-freefont/FontName/
and
localtexmf/fonts/vf/softmaker-freefont/FontName/
This seems strange. Say I get the Baskerville-Nova font and put all
the stuff from /tfm directory under:
localtexmf/fonts/vf/softmaker-freefont/Baskerville-Nova/
then I have all the .tfm files for every font that has been released
to CTAN from softmaker up till now. Plus, if I want to install
additional fonts from them, I would have duplicate copies of .tfm
files scattered under these directories. What is the best way to deal
with this situation? I would appreciate any suggestions or advice.
Regards,
Tariq
