Is TeX a mathematics media type?

Hi
According to the forthcoming MathML3, it seems that they will not recognise TeX as a media type for mathematical content!

Here's what Paul Libbrecht says (in URL above):
===
- non-standardized string: TeX, For this type, I have to say, there is
no standard and it seems impossible to safely define one. We could
replace it by application/x-tex which is what the Apache server
delivers for a .tex file. On this point, I request suggestions.
===
However, they are accepting Maple and Mathematica, and text/plain.
My view is that if text/plain is useful, then so is text/tex, even though TeX notation mathematics is not sufficiently standardised.
