I suppose that 'floatfig' package was considered as old and was

My understanding is that floatfig does not work with LaTeX2e, which is
the version of LaTeX that you surely want to have (it has been
standard for more than a decade). It has been brought up to date with
floatflt, so you could use that. However, that package has an unclear
license status (see http://www.tug.org/pipermail/tex-live/2008-January/015285.html
), which I think is why it isn't in TL.
'picins' package seems old : (Ctan
Package information)
Location on CTAN /macros/latex209/contrib/picins
(latex209).
I was under the impression that it still worked. But if you gave it a
quick try, that would tell.
I'll be glad to hear you comments and recommendations about pro and
con of these packages. Also may be someone knows why floatflt package
not in TL?
I use wrapfig, for what that is worth-- which is not much. Anything
I've tried involves a lot of fooling around, maybe some rewriting of
sentences, especially in multiple columns. The FAQ refers to Piet's
summary, which you can find by googling something like "Piet wrapfig",
and that'll tell you about whether a package can be used inside a list
environment, etc.
